Negative and Positive Ions:
In spite of the name, negative anions are anything but negative. In fact, many, studies have found that anions have a wealth of healthy benefits.
The air we breathe whether indoors or outdoors, contains both gas and water molecules, the majority which are invisible. These particles, contain both positively and negatively charged ions.
Positively charged ions are called (cations), while negatively charged ions are called (anions). The negative ions, or anions, are the ones we call "beneficial" or "healthy" for the air we breathe.
Anions occur in all sizes and are attracted like a magnet, to suspended particles such as dust, mold spores, odors and allergens. As a result of the additional weight; the airborne molecules or dust particles can no longer stay suspended and fall onto the nearest surface removing any odors or toxins that might be present.

It is worth noting that both machines require filters, cleaning, electricity and are only effective when actually running.
